Curriculum at the nursery

The children at Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery, Notting Hill are encouraged to learn through play. The daily curriculum covers all the key areas of Birth to Three Matters & the  Early Years Foundation Stage and is designed to meet the needs of all the children.

The Birth to Three framework is child-centred and identifies ‘four’ aspects where growth, learning, development and the children’s environment interrelate. These aspects are ‘a strong child’, ‘a healthy child’, ‘a competent learner’ and ‘a skillful communicator’.  Our commitment to the curriculum is evident in the flexible daily structures we follow for each age-appropriate room, the familiarity of all staff with the framework, the careful selection of resources, the kind of activities engaged in and the value placed on nutrition, meals and mealtimes themselves.

Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries has a dedicated Educational Co-ordinator to help each Baby / Toddler & Pre School leader devise their curriculum plans and records according to the needs of the children attending. Long, Medium and Short Term Plans are all displayed in each of the rooms along with details of all our topics which will be covered in the coming months.

We keep detailed records on the development of all children attending Nursery and these are available to be viewed and discussed at any time by parents. We always encourage parents to add details of their child’s experiences and progress from outside the nursery to help keep these development records accurate.

Parents’ evenings are held at least twice a year and are an opportunity for parents to discuss their child’s progress on a formal one to one basis.

The Toddler / Preschool room is made up of one large spacious room which is divided and there is a separate baby and sleep room.

The children progress from the Birth to Three curriculum to the topic-based Foundation Stage curriculum. This covers a large range of activities such as music, singing, music and movement, cooking, free play , numbers, phonetics, games, puzzles, role play and stories.

We also provide exercise for the children, as we have fabulous outside space and babies  enjoy  baby massage, colours, listening and communicating, storytime, music and movement, rhythms and clapping.
