Nutrition
Our extensive menus have been devised by a nutritionist in order to provide fresh balanced meals to all children at each meal or snack time.
We also have a professionally on site trained local chef who works full time at the nursery preparing food for the children.
She teaches cookery classes to the children twice a week, and talks about food, understanding where food comes from and how we grow and cook it it. The cookery class works well with our gardening class and helps to educate children on the benefits of healthy eating and support the development of good habits.
Breakfast is served between 7.00 am and 8.30am and is a variety of fruit, wholemeal toast and cereals.
At mid-morning children enjoy a selection of various fruit from our snack bar where they learn to serve themselves (under supervision). This facility provides a welcome energy boost, while teaching the children independence and choice.
Lunch is always a balanced hot meal and copies of ourĀ weekly menus are available at each nursery. We always use fresh, organic, free range or locally-sourced produce where possible in our meals.
Children are encouraged to sit together and use their knives and forks correctly. They all wash their hands before and after each meal and the staff sit with them at the table encouraging them to eat.
Mid afternoon snacks are again fresh and balanced and are designed to encourage all the children to try new foods together. In winter times soups are served with sandwiches and dips.
Supper time is served at 5.00pm and the children get a full supper where they all sit and eat together.
Fresh water is available to the children at all times and there is a chilled water filter which is used.
